Farming Operations
Farming operations at Coxalls
Since 2018, we have been dedicated to contract farming and land rental farming operations, prioritising high-output crop production while maintaining environmental stewardship and sustainable farming practises. While previously involved in countryside stewardship initiatives, we've transitioned to the latest Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) program which has proven to enhance biodiversity both in the soils of our farms and across the dedicated on-land environmental areas.
Our ongoing commitment involves minimising artificial fertiliser usages, to support biodiversity on our farms, with a major shift towards organic practices including targeted digestate applications, whenever feasible.
What we grow
We grow a diverse range of crops tailored to thrive in our local environment, we also prioritise sustainable practices to ensure the long-term health of our land and our environment.
Wheat
Barley
Oil Seed Rape
Sugar Beet
Maize
Our Farming Practices
Cultivation
By using modern cultivation machinery across our farms, we maximise yields while minimising environmental impact. This is done by reducing the number of passes we undertake on each field and utilising Vario Grip on our Fendt’s, thus reducing compaction on our soils and increasing soil health and productivity.
Drilling
Our Lemken combination drill, equipped with section control and Vaderstad Rapid's with high speed drilling capacity ensures uniform crop emergence, maximised germination rates, and increased yields at harvest. Additionally, our 6-meter Vaderstad seed drill features a rapid lift tool bar to relieve ground compaction before planting Oil Seed Rape.
Crop Protection
Our approach to crop protection is quite simple. We only utilise artificial fertilisers when we cannot utilise our own in-house liquid digestate. If we need to spray then we do so by a accurate and targeted control process with our 36 metre Challenger sprayer, with section control. By minimising fertilisers usage, we hope to see an increasing gain with our local biodiversity across our farms.
Harvesting
We utilise our FENDT 9T combine harvester for our cereal harvesting operations; on tracks to reduce soil compaction. Alongside this we run our Grain Saver chaser bin to streamline and increase the efficiency of getting the grain from the combine to the stores. From there, the chaser bin unloads into our own lorry and grain bulker combination, to complete the process of the whole in house harvest and farming operation.
